From waitlist to deployment, B3D manages every step of the process so you can focus on your scholarship.
Submit your waitlist form to receive priority access to application details, eligibility requirements, and cohort updates for the 2028 Portugal deployment. Waitlist members are notified first when applications open.
When applications open, waitlist members receive a formal application to share their academic background, areas of expertise, preferred engagement types, and deployment goals. B3D reviews all applications and selects cohort participants.
Accepted scholars are matched with partner universities and institutions in Lisbon and Porto based on their discipline, expertise, and engagement preferences. B3D coordinates all institutional introductions and logistics.
Accepted scholars receive a comprehensive pre-departure briefing covering academic expectations, cultural programming, travel logistics, and cohort orientation. B3D provides ongoing support throughout the preparation process.
Scholars arrive in Portugal and begin their academic engagements at partner universities and institutions. Activities may include guest lectures, workshops, faculty collaboration, research exploration, and speaking engagements tailored to each scholar's expertise.
The second week is dedicated to curated cultural programming throughout Lisbon and Porto, including African Diaspora heritage tours, engagement with Afro-Portuguese communities, culinary immersion, and historical site visits. Free time for rest and personal exploration is built into the itinerary.
